For the first time since 1967 — when Guinness first began importing its draught into the United States — Guinness will be launching a new addition to its line of beers.
The Limited Edition 250 Anniversary Stout goes on sale April 24th in the United States.
If you try the new stout, let me know what you think in the comments.
Here’s a video from Guinness marking the occasion:
UPDATE: I finally got my hands on a pint of Guinness 250 last night at Fado’s. I’ll admit to being wary — why change perfection? — but it was surprisingly good! A bit lighter, a touch fizzier, and very smooth. I’m looking forward to having quite a few more before they stop production.

I'll be looking for it. Should be on some shelves today actually.

As somebody who drinks mainly Stouts and has had many I have to say that this actually drinks more like a lager. not to take away from it because it is a great beer from a great brewer. i think it will be more “america friendly” than regular Guinness but is only around a short time i believe. maybe a good response will bring it back???? 8 out of 10 and a must drink before it's gone. also, goes great with Redbreast Irish Whiskey

I just found your website (Damn good idea, if you ask me!) and just finished my first Guinness 250 Anniversary Stout. Let me tell you first off that Guinness has been my favorite beer for over 30 years, and my first reaction was much the same as yours… why change perfection?
However…
On my first sip, my reaction was wow! And on my first long pull, it was … WOW! This stuff is amazing! No, it won't replace good old Guinness in my mind, or taste buds, but it is something I will regularly be buying for the next several months.
Good luck on your world wide goal!

I had 250 on draught and was very impressed. Bought a $10 six pack (didn't know they were going to release it in bottles) and I'm not impressed. It was uninspiring in the bottle.
Please, please, please keep this one around. I’m a fan of Guinness, but don’t think I can drink it all night-for that, Smithwick’s is my beer of choice. But 250 is the perfect compromise (and I know some of you diehards would call it nothing more than a compromise) between the two. A bit more flavor and body than Smithwick’s, but vastly more drinkable in quantities more than one than original Guinness. I’ll be quite disappointed if this one is gone foreveer!
